A woman in Murinduko Ward in Mwea East yesterday expressed mixed feelings over the death of her son who was killed by a mob on Sunday night.

Esther Muthoni said her son, Ndwiga Mwaniki, tormented her for two years and that she could not explain whether she was happy or sad about his killing.

Mwaniki, 42, arrived home on Sunday night and banged on his mother's door, demanding that she open it. Muthoni said her son demanded her head.

After realising that her son was determined to break the door, the mother screamed, begging for help from neighbours who responded swiftly.

Mwaniki fled but the neighbours chased after him and caught up with him around Murinduko Hill where they beat him to death.

On Monday, area administrators went to console with Muthoni. James Mwaniki, the brother of the deceased, has vowed not to hold any service or ceremony to mourn his brother.

The brother said the deceased chased them from home for unknown reasons.

"As a family, we are not holding any night meetings or even burial in honour of Ndwiga," he said.

The body is at the Kerugoya mortuary awaiting postmortem.
