A 38-year-old man has found himself in serious legal trouble after allegedly knocking out three of his wife's teeth during a furious outburst after she failed to purchase pork, his favourite dish.
However, Felix Omondi Odhiambo, the accused, has vehemently dismissed the claims, stating that the true source of the conflict lay in a political disagreement over the recently concluded African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship election, after Raila Odinga lost his bid.
Odhiambo appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Rotich at the Makadara Law Courts, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges, insisting that he had merely 'pushed' his wife, Lilian Adhiambo Abongo, during the heated exchange on February 18.
The couple had been living together for a long time at Mahatima Estate in Kariobangi South. Odhiambo sent Sh1000 to his wife's M-Pesa account with clear instructions to buy pork for dinner.
However, Adhiambo, a fish vendor, returned home late that night, around 11pm, only to find the butchery closed and, therefore, had no pork to prepare. She came home empty-handed.
Furious, Odhiambo demanded his money back. Before his wife could transfer the money, a red-hot rage overtook him and he allegedly struck her, knocking out three of her teeth with a punch to the mouth.
The altercation sparked a commotion, and neighbours, who overheard the row, rushed to her aid.
In his defence, the accused claimed that his anger stemmed from a political argument over the loss of Baba's bid for the AUC position. He argued that feeling deeply aggrieved by the outcome, he had merely pushed her to the floor in a fit of frustration.
