A 63-year old Kenyan woman living in the United Kingdom is set to walk 900 kilometers in a mission to raise monies for homeless children in Nairobi.

Rose Nyarangi, born in Borabu in Nyamira County but married and living in the UK will embark on the pilgrimage from Saint Jean Pied de Port in France which is at the foot of Pyrenees Mountains and end her walk at the Finsterre in Spain.

The two places are about 899 kilometers apart.

The 46 days' journey will start on September 16 and end on October 26.

In her plan, Nyarangi says she wants to raise PS50,000(around Sh7.5 million) which she says will first go to the Dagorreti Children's home before fundraising again for other homes raising vulnerable children within the city.

The Dagorreti Corner Children's home is a haven for over 500 young kids, most of whom being those abandoned, orphaned and victims of abuse.

Already, the philanthropist has raised around PS1,200 from her family and friends and she hopes to raise the remaining amount during the long walk.

"I have gotten overwhelming support from my family and close friends who have given me the necessary psyche to embark on the walk and I expect to find many more people of good will who will help me achieve my goal," Nyarangi said.

The sojourner is planning to walk through the Compostela de Santiago which is very famous for pilgrims.

In order to cover the 900 kilometers as planned, Nyarangi says she will be walking an average of 17-25 kilometers each day.

"I have been training and I am fit to do the entire distance because I am physically and mentally strong to do it," she said.

The funds she says are meant to help the children's home build decent toilets, kitchen, a habitable dormitory and classrooms.

"This walk is solely for the Dagorreti Children's Home where vulnerable kids are living in squalor conditions not befitting children of God. We can do another fundraiser for other homes as time goes by and if we have the opportunity," Nyarangi said.

Nyarangi, a professional accountant says she is determined to give the kids in Nairobi a better life through charity.

After the walk, she is expected to jet into the country where she is expected to do a fundraiser from locals to help boost the kitty for the kids.
