Leaders,
together with the Security Department for Lamu County, have now raised concerns
over rising cases of incest.
The issue
of fathers involving their own daughters into sexual intercourse is increasing
and more so in Hindi Division, Lamu West.
During his
Lamu public address, the County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said that he was
working with the County Police Commander Moses Muriithi about the cases. Mr.
Macharia warned of stern actions against those involved.
Macharia
lamented that fathers had become predators over their own daughters. Worst was
even to a point where some girls fell pregnant in the process.
He called
upon the public to report such vices, adding that any man luring a minor into
sexual intercourse ought to be jailed. He noted how a girl child should be protected,
and her future supported other than being destroyed.

"We
will not tolerate men who go around defiling young girls. It's unfortunate that
even fathers prey on their own daughters. I want to warn you that my office is
keenly investigating the matter. We will ensure those involved are
punished," stated Mr. Macharia.
Lamu Women
Rep. Ruweida Obbo, also wondered how fathers who are supposed to protect their
daughters had become predators. She urged for chemical castration upon all
those involved.
"It's
high time that the defilers are castrated so that they never get to commit such
crimes again as they will now be dysfunctional," stated Ms. Ruweida.
Hon. Anab
Haji, Hindi MCA, urged religious leaders to intervene and rescue the worrying
situation in Hindi, noting that he was not impressed by the action.
Reports by
police indicate Mpeketoni and Hindi topping the list in sexual assault against
minors. Others in the list are Lamu Island, Witu, and Basuba in Lamu East.
