A Pwani University student is fighting for her life at Kilifi County Referral Hospital after she was attacked by her estranged boyfriend.
Naomi Chepkemoi was stabbed several times in the neck, breast and back in Mkwajuni village in the outskirts of Kilifi town, reportedly by the man with whom she had a child.
Ms Chepkemoi, a Third Year student studying Public Health, was rescued by her neighbours and fellow students who persuaded the man, who had locked himself in the house with the woman for more than four hours from 6am, to open the door.
Kilifi North OCPD Njoroge Ngigi said the man was in custody and would be arraigned this week.
Speaking at the hospital, Eugine Ochieng', Naomi’s classmate and a neighbour, said the student sent him a text message seeking help.
Refused to open
“The man came at 6am. At first Naomi had refused to open the door and we don’t know how he convinced her to open. After a while, I received the text from her, which said: "Come and open the door for me please". I went and tried to open but I could not. That is when I alerted others who came,” said Mr Ochieng'.
Ochieng' said the landlady convinced the man to open the door.
“He opened the door and we found Chepkemoi lying down unconscious in a pool of blood. There were two knives beside her,” he said.
Diana Magut, also a neighbour, said Chepkemoi had not been in good terms with the father of her child for a long time and that there was a time they differed and he assaulted her.
Pwani University Students Association President Fikirini Jacobs condemned the incident.
