Many ward representatives are living in fear of attacks by residents who have accused them of passing a Motion to have causal workers sacked.
Kayafungo ward rep Alphonse Mwayaa yesterday said his life was in danger after a group of youth attacked him at the office of the Governor.
The youths are angry with Mr Mwayaa after he successfully moved the Motion to sack the more than 1,500 casuals.
Mwayaa said he had been forced to change vehicles as the youths continued to hunt him down.
“I had attended a function at the governor’s office when a group of youths confronted me ready to beat me up. I was rescued by the governor’s security officers, who whisked me to my car before I sped off,” said Mwayaa

He said those who wanted to attack him were not casuals from the county.
“Relatives of those who were illegally employed have teamed up with MCAs who did not support the Motion to frustrate us. I feel Another MCA who was not present when the Motion was debated is also behind our attacks,” said Mwayaa.
No new casuals
Sammy Ndago of Shimo la Tewa was attacked last week by the same youths at the county government offices for supporting the Motion.
According to a letter from the head of the Kilifi Public Service Board Rosalia Nyalle, addressed to the Clerk of the Assembly Silas Kahindi, the board denied engaging any new casuals. It blamed chief officers of the various departments of doing so.
“The board has not engaged casuals other than those who were absorbed from the defunct local authorities in 2015,” said Ms Nyalle in her reply to the letter.
“Casuals have been hired by the chief officers despite the board’s advice on the contrary.”
The county secretary has 60 days to sacks the workers.
