As we say goodbye to 2015, we look at some of its highlights:
Dignitaries’ visits: Not only were we treated to a visit by the first Kenyan-American President but we were also graced with the presence of Pope Francis.
Holy celebrities: This was the year many renowned ‘men of God’ got caught up in scandals. However, the two who made waves were pastor Ng’ang’a, who was allegedly involved in not only one but two accidents, and Kanyari who was exposed as a fraud.
Home of champions: Kenyan athletes have always been sterling when it comes to sports, but what is new? Gor Mahia made history and won the league unbeaten, Julius Yego became the first Kenyan to win gold in javelin at the World Athletics Championship and Nicholas Bett became the first Kenyan to win the 400 meters hurdles men final.
Political ad-libs: This was also the year politicians decided to be loose cannons and publicly make reckless remarks and spew hatred regardless of the consequences and the likes of Moses Kuria, Muthama, Aladwa and Keter played a starring role. Hopefully, we will have less of this as we gear up for the next general elections.
Socialites’ boom: If you’ve been active on social media this year, you might have noticed how Kenyan socialites have risen to unprecedented levels. These individuals publish nude images, twerking videos and flashy trips abroad just to maintain their set standards.
We look forward to the new year and the highlights it will bring.
