The Ministry of Sports has committed Sh25 million for the completion of rehabilitation work at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret that stalled for more than a year owing to shortage of funds.
Speaking during a tour of the facility yesterday, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Hassan Wario said the money would be channelled next week to facilitate completion of the project by April.
Wario said the ministry is committed to completing all stalled projects before embarking on new ones.
“We know we inherited the stadia. It was not started by the Jubilee government, but we cannot pass the buck and that is why we are not going to rest between now and April until we ensure the project comes to an end,” he affirmed.

The cabinet secretary underscored the importance of the facility, located at the epicenter of athletics in Kenya, in boosting athletics.
Despite giving the contractor a clean bill of health, he said auditors were on the ground to ascertain various technical challenges to avoid any more stalling.
“The stadium is the home of athletics in Kenya not to mention that Lorna Kiplagat exposed us when she launched hers, and that is why we cannot ignore it,” Wario said.
