The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary (OPCS) and the Ministry of Interior and National Administration (MINA) will verify high-impact government projects in Nyanza and Western regions from Monday, October 28, to Thursday, October 31, 2024.
This phase two exercise follows an initial phase conducted in Eastern and Coast regions.
In a statement, Communications Director at the National Government Coordination Secretariat Andrew Teyie said, “The purpose of this countrywide exercise is to verify and validate the status of high-impact selected projects and programmes for the financial year 2023/2024.”
He explained that the verification will incorporate information from ministries and state agencies.
The team includes representatives from OPCS, MINA, and other government departments.
Projects under review include the Edible Oil Value Chain Project, which involves the production of 250,000 palm seedlings and distribution of sunflower seeds to farmers in several counties.
The government plans to expand cotton production acreage significantly, from 26,000 acres to 200,000 acres.
Other projects include the construction of 200,000 affordable housing units annually and the development of 6,000 kilometres of roads.
The government also aims to provide agricultural crop insurance to 2 million farmers across 38 counties.
The verification team will document challenges and bottlenecks, which will be presented to the National Development Implementation Committee (NDIC) for further action.
The next NDIC meeting is set for November 5.
