General Francis Ogolla sworn in as Chief of Defence Forces at Stae House, Nairobi. [PCS]

President William Ruto has sworn General Francis Ogolla as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Saturday morning, at Nairobi's State House.

Also sworn in into office are Vice Chief of Defence Forces General Jonah Mwangi, and other generals who were promoted yesterday.

Ruto urged the top leadership of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to serve diligently and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Kenya.

"I urge you to observe professionalism and build an outstanding relationship between the military and other arms of government," the Head of State beckoned.

Gen. Ogolla takes over as the CDF mantle from Gen. Robert Kibochi whose term ended after 44 years in the military.

The new CDF previously served as the Commander of the Air Force and Vice Chief of Defence Forces.

Ogolla has made history by being the first CDF to hold a PhD and the first non-infantry officer from the Kenya Army to be appointed as Chief of Defence Forces.

Gen. Mwangi, the new Vice CDF was the Vice Chancellor, National Defence University, Kenya.

Other members of the military who have taken up new roles include Brigadier David Kipkemboi Keter who has been promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics.
