The Kenyatta University Council has upheld its decision of appointing Prof Waceke Wanjohi as acting vice chancellor to replace Prof Paul Wainaina.
Prof Wanjohi's return to office comes after the Employment and Labour Relations Court reversed its decision to reinstate Prof Wainaina, who had challenged his dismissal following a standoff over transfer of part of the university's land.
The court had on July 26 ordered the council to reinstate the embattled VC who was suspended for refusing to surrender land to the State for a World Health Organisation (WHO) project.
In a statement from the council released Friday by the chairman, Prof Chrispus Kiamba, Prof Wanjohi will continue serving in acting capacity.
"The attention of the university community is drawn to a decision by the Hon. Justice Gakeri of the Employment and Labour Court in Nairobi on 4th August 2022 where the court dismissed an application by Prof. Paul Wainaina for injunctive orders," said Prof Kiamba.
Arising from the court developments, the council resolved that Prof Wanjohi continue as acting VC of the university until further notice.
