Baringo, Kenya: Tension is high in Arabal, Marigat Sub-county in Baringo County after bandits attacked and shot dead a middle age man and his son while they were travelling to Marigat town on Sunday evening.
According to locals, the father and his two kids were travelling to Marigat when they were ambushed by bandits killing him and one of his sons on the spot.
John Wendot a local said that residents are now living in fear as they suspect the bandits could be hiding in the area.
Wendot has called on the government to urgently respond and flush out the bandits who have been wreaking havoc in the area.
“The situation is worsening and we are calling on the government to move with speed and apprehend the bandits behind the heinous act,” he said.
Area OCPD Otulia Kaunya urged residents to stay calm as security officers pursue the marauding bandits.
The incident follows another attack on Wednesday where suspected bandits attacked a convoy of police officers spraying the police vehicles with bullets.
One officer sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and was admitted in Kabarnet County hospital. The officers were returning from an operation to recover cattle stolen from Arabal.
Despite heavy security presence in the area, bandits have managed to stage attacks in the area inflicting heavy losses to area residents while disrupting life.
Last month, 21 officers died at the Turkana-Baringo Border while on an operation to recover a police vehicle in Kapedo.
Baringo County commissioner Peter Okwanyo has revealed over 50,000 illegal arms are in the arms of civilians.
