Iranians living in Kenya participated in the 14th Iranian Presidential Election on Friday, June 28.

Despite their dispersion, those eligible to vote, exercised their rights at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran where a ballot box was stationed.

The voting exercise begun at 8:00 AM and is set to continue up until 6:00 PM.

The election follows the death of the former President Ebrahim Raisi who died in a plane crash on May 19.

Raisi died alongside Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and several others while heading to the city of Tabriz, in the northwest of Iran, after returning from an Iran-Azerbaijan border area.

To replace him, those contesting include the current Iranian Speaker Mohammad Bagher, Seed Jalili who is a member of the Supreme National Security Council in Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, a sitting Member of Parliament and Mostafa Pourmohammadi a centrist.
