Businesswoman loses Sh2.3 million to Canada job scam

A man has been charged with defrauding a businesswoman of Sh2.3 million within Kamukunji, pretending to be in a position to give her children jobs and scholarships in Canada.

Festus Kirui (pictured above) was charged with obtaining the money from Mary Wangari Ndung'u between December 9 last year and June 7 this year.

Kirui allegedly told Ndung'u he will use the money to process visas and travel documents.

Ndung'u suspected foul play when Kirui started avoiding her and not picking up calls. She reported the matter to officers at Kamukunji police station. Kirui was arrested and charged before Makadara Chief Magistrate Francis Kyambia.

He was released on Sh800,000 bail. The case will be heard on January 22 next year.
