Kenya is among the top recipients of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funding, a new financial memo shows, with over $100 million allocated to health and development projects.
The memo, prepared for Congress, reveals USAID obligated $69.7 billion out of an estimated $78 billion to 898 active programmes globally.
Among these, Kenya received multi-million-dollar agreements targeting HIV prevention, reproductive health, nutrition, and water sanitation.
The financial review also shows USAID terminated 5,341 aid agreements worth $75.8 billion worldwide.
However, only $48.1 billion was used, leaving $27.7 billion unspent after the programmes ended.
In Kenya, USAID has partnered with local institutions and international firms to implement key projects.
Moi University College of Health Sciences is leading the USAID 4TheChild Programme, valued at $34.6 million.
The agency has obligated $24.8 million for the project, which runs until 2026.
Deloitte & Touche LLP is spearheading a health systems partnership in Kenya worth $46.7 million. USAID has so far obligated $40.5 million to the initiative.
Another major agreement is a $217.9 million supply chain strengthening programme, with USAID disbursing $29.2 million so far.
USAID's total active and closed aid agreements amount to more than $153 billion globally, the memo shows.
The agency has an outstanding balance of $8.3 billion yet to be disbursed for active projects.
