Have you been to a barber shop or salon and it happen that the person prettifying you makes a suggestive look, move or statement? Well, you could be a victim of commercial sex workers who, masquerading as hairdressers, barbers and beauticians have invaded beauty industry so to lure moneyed and vulnerable customers, especially men in upmarket areas. The Hairdressers, Barbers and Beauty Association (Habeba) has raised a red flag saying the trend that is tarnishing their industry has intensified in major towns of Kenya. Habeba Chairman Boniface Wainaina in a statement criticized the move saying it was not relating well with experts in the industry making a honest livelihood and as well the professionalism expected. "We condemn the invasion of the industry by commercial sex workers who disguise as cosmetologists and beauticians to trick unsuspecting clients into sexual activities.
These activities are rampant in the uptown side of Nairobi, Westlands, Hurlingahm and other parts of the country like Kisumu and Mombasa" said Wainaina. He said their bonafide members conduct themselves with professionalism and not with wicked interests.
He urged members of the public, and especially affected customers and state agencies to assist them in weeding out these masqueraders.
