Mudavadi: I paid Sh50,000 to fake preachers to find my missing girl

Mudavadi shows a picture of his missing daughter

A family in Nairobi has been left penniless after losing Sh50,000 to fake city preachers.

The distraught family whose young daughter had gone missing told The Nairobian that the money was an offering meant to bring back their lost daughter.

Their optimism, they claim, was fanned by empty promises given to them by the ‘men of God’.

Three-year-old Monica Mahugu was kidnapped while playing outside their home within Industrial area on October 1.

Her disappearance coincided with a two weeks Church crusade that had been going on just a few metres from their house.

Enock Mudavadi, the father who is casual labourer in a steel wool Company in Industrial area, told The Nairobian: “I was away from home when I received a call around 7pm from my wife informing me that Monica was nowhere to be seen in the evening.”

Mudavadi says his daughter was playing outside their house with her friends but did not return to the house.

One of the kids claims she saw an unidentified dreadlocked man pick Mudavadi’s daughter, adding that the man held her hand after promising to give her drinking water.

“We looked for her all over the neighbourhood until 1am. That is when we reported to the police, but they asked that we fuel their vehicle first,” says Mudavadi.

In their desperate search for their daughter the family was forced to involve their faith, but that has since left them poor and without any results so far.

“One week after her disappearance, I visited a popular Church along Latema road at the City centre and when I asked to see a renowned lead preacher with the problem his close aides told me to give an offering. They handed me a Sh5,000 envelope,” claims Mudavadi.

Having parted with the cash Mudavadi said he was prayed for and promised the daughter would be found but nothing was forthcoming.

“I visited another Church in Donholm recommended by friend and met pastor identified as Chris. After sharing with him how my daughter disappeared, he prayed and told me to have ‘captured’ the person who kidnapped my daughter through vision,” he said.

Here, the pastor asked him to part with Sh5,000. He could only afford Sh3,000 but which he did not produce after a friend warned him. Mudavadi decided to give a final shot in another Church within Kawangware where he met a male preacher who sympathised with him but asked for Sh6,000 in exchange for miracles.

Meanwhile, another preacher from Hillocks area disappeared after receiving Sh12,000 from his wife.

“When we visited his house we realised the preacher had relocated, and even changed his phone number,” says Mudavadi adding that they have lost Sh50,000 to dubious preachers in Nairobi.
