Suggestions by an eminent judge that hookers be arrested alongside their male clients has rubbed ‘night nurses’ the wrong way.
Court of Appeal Justice Martha Koome told the Judicial Service Commission interviewing her for the post of Supreme Court Judge that without clients, hookers would lose business and close shop.
However, Peninah Mwangi, the Director of Bar Hostess Empowerment Support Programme (BHEP) told Justice Koome it was through ‘night nursing’ that they fed their families and in any case, “sex between two adult should not be of any concern to the government.”
Peninah says men could be discouraged if the arrests are effected since being caught in the act is a marriage terminating move for married men with kids. Justice Koome said: “Prostitution is a worldwide problem... If there is no demand for it, then it would end.” She added that, “If we arrested the men driving around in big cars, women would not parade themselves.”
