Cucu wants police to ‘fix’ her teeth and 85-year-old knees

Tabitha Wanjiru claims an officer attached to the Nembu Chief Camp in Gatundu, Kiambu County, should be made to fix her knees and teeth that became loose after she fell during a forceful arrest

An 85-year-old grandmother is seeking justice following alleged unlawful arrest that weakened her knees and her last two remaining teeth.

Tabitha Wanjiru claims an officer attached to the Nembu Chief Camp in Gatundu, Kiambu County, should be made to fix her knees and teeth that became loose after she fell during a forceful arrest.

She was however later set free without any charges. She was booked under OB 28/24/08/2016 at 2.50pm.

She now claims her efforts to acquire P3 form to enable her pursue the matter have been frustrated.

“The land where I was arrested was shared between my father’s five wives, but that day when I arrived to visit some of the relatives, I found someone erecting a house on the land left to my late mother,” she told The Nairobian.

Upon enquiry, Wanjiru claims one of the laborers chased her away with a piece of wood in an attempt to hit her. In the process, she says, she tripped and fell leaving her with injuries to the knee. She was rescued by neighbours.

She claims that, “Hours later, one of my stepbrothers arrived in the company of an Administration Police (AP) officer who attempted to arrest me, claiming that I had created disturbance. But I refused to accompany them fearing for my life.”

Wanjiru says she left the compound late in the afternoon and boarded a matatu back to her Githurai home in Nairobi, only to be intercepted by the same AP officer and the stepbrother who had been trailing her in a private vehicle.

Kiambu DCIO Amos Teben told The Nairobian that, “She came to report the matter and we are going to assist her. The matter has been referred to her nearest police station to be follow-up.”
