Why my wife and son want me dead

Jason Ogonyo during interview at Guru-Nanak hospital bed showing deep cuts allegedly inflicted by his son's stabs 2

A father and his son are currently nursing injuries in the same hospital. The circumstances that led to their admission just two days apart has puzzled hospital staff, their friends and relatives.

Jason Ogonyo, 57, claims he was attacked by his son at their home in Kasarani Mwiki on June 15.

The father is nursing two deep stab wounds in his head and neck, while his 19-year-old son has been admitted to the health facility with a broken leg and arm.

Ogonyo claims that his son, an IT second-year college dropout, has colluded with his mother to kill him over his property. But the wife has vehemently denied the accusations.

On the fateful day, the senior Ogonyo arrived home to a power blackout.

“I wanted to charge my phone but on checking around my two-bedroomed house, I realised the power cables were missing. I went to a nearby shop for new ones but they were not compatible with the old ones,” the father said, adding that, “at night, there was suspicious movement in the house, but when I woke up to fix the main switch in the morning, more cables had been tampered with.”

He alleges that a metallic object which was on the floor electrocuted him and while he was fighting for his life, “my son Dennis appeared from nowhere armed with a kitchen knife and stabbed me twice in the head. I pushed him away before he could stab me a third time in the neck.”

Ogonyo further claims that his neighbours came just in time to save him from his son who allegedly tried to stash rugs into his mouth. Neighbours were able to rush him to hospital as his son fled.

In a shocking turn of events, Dennis, Ogonyo’s son, was rescued two days later in critical condition by some Good Samaritans who coincidentally took him to the same hospital where his dad was recuperating.

When The Nairobian visited Dennis’ hospital bed, he said he loved his father and asked for his forgiveness.

“I have forgiven him for what he did because he is my son, but I will not stand in the way of the law. When I get discharged, I’m not planning to go back to my house. I will have to look for another place where I feel safer,” said the senior Ogonyo.

Genesis of troubles

In an interview with The Nairobian, Ogonyo claims that trouble in his homestead began after he lost his first wife and married wife number two who happens to be Dennis’ mum.

“My first wife and mother of our four kids died four years ago and I married a second wife, Nellius Kabura, around the same time. Since then, my life has never been the same. Things have been very hectic,” he said, adding that, “Nellius and I both live in Kasarani, but we are currently separated. We have three children, together and Dennis is my first born with her.

Ogonyo claims that Dennis has given him a hard time for close to a year.

“He colludes with his mother to steal from me and so far, Sh63,000 and Sh76,000 have been withdrawn from my mobile phone money account,” he said.

When he confronted Nellius, she allegedly said it was their time to eat since, “I’m spending money on prostitutes.”

According to Ogonyp, he reported the matter at Kasarani Criminal Investigations department and they are still investigating the case, “including the recent attempt on my life.”

He’s a womaniser

Nellius has denied these allegations and instead claims that Ogonyo brought another woman to their house and is accusing her husband of infidelity.

“It is not true that I’m behind his troubles. In fact, he brought another woman to the house we built together,” she alleged.

She added that she “has been struggling alone to feed and educate their children.”

Nellius further accuses Ogonyo of being selfish.

“He locks food in his bedroom to deny Dennis access to it,” she charged.
