A 37-year-old man impersonating a Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company staff told court he committed the offence because his mother is blind.
James Kimani Ngugi is alleged to have committed the offence on June 10 at Kasarani's Kamae area.
The court heard that Ngugi visited Mutie's home and lied he was from Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company and had come to disconnect his water over unpaid dues.
Mutie told court he was not scared since he knew he had no outstanding balance and when he demanded to see Ngugi's identification card, he became a bit hesitant.
He suspected malice and demanded they go to police. After investigations, the police found out he was an imposter.
He was arrested and pleaded guilty.
“Someone from the company introduced me to the job and told me I could fetch a few coins. I am sorry, your honour. I was desperate since my mother is blind and has no means of survival. She depends on me," he said.
His case will be heard on June 8.
