Plans to force 42-year-old Huruma bachelor into arranged marriage flops as he goes into hiding

Counties

The Bible says, the man who finds a wife, finds a treasure and he receives favour from God. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of a seemingly no nonsense diehard bachelor in Nairobi’s Huruma estate, who robustly protested and turned down manna, in form of a free wife, from heaven.

Neighbours to the 42-year-old bachelor, only identified as Patrick, were treated to drama after efforts by his conniving mother to forcefully get him into an arranged marriage backfired.

The unidentified mother had travelled all the way from Bungoma County, complete with a bunch of aunts, emissaries and a young woman believed to be in her 20s whom she planned to marry off her son to.

The impromptu visit and plans to forcefully marry him off threw the senior bachelor into panic, forcing him to go into hiding after his mother persistently insisted that he must marry the young woman she had been grooming for him.

Initially, there was uneasy calm in the house as the bachelor engaged his mother in small banter about the village, relatives and the terrible Nairobi weather.

But just when the top agenda for the unannounced visit was revealed, the senior bachelor turned grumpy and began protesting, saying he will only marry when he wants.

Bachelor in fits of rage

It all began when the bachelor’s mother arrived at his rented two-roomed house unannounced with a group of emissaries with his wife-to-be in tow.

Considering this was happening on an easy Sunday morning, Patrick was caught off guard. Without slightest of idea about what was about to transpire, the tensed bachelor welcomed them, albeit grudgingly.

After exchanging pleasantries and a few awkward moments of loud silence, Patrick’s mother dropped the bombshell, throwing the bachelor in fits of rage.

That his mother had the temerity to bring him a wife and even push the joke further by tagging along a bunch of villagers drove the bachelor up the wall.

Appeals by his mother that she was eager to see him settle down and get her grandchildren fell on deaf ears. So did pleas from the emissaries, explaining how marriage is an important thing to a grown man.

Mother’s lack of respect

Insisting that he was not ready for marriage, a furious Patrick threw a tantrum, protesting his mother’s lack of respect and courtesy to inform him of such plans well in advance.

Overwhelmed and humiliated, Patrick sulked and stormed out of the house in self-righteous rage, leaving his shocked guests by themselves.

The bachelor’s mother and her team camped in the house, hoping he will return but he never showed up. Efforts to reach him on his mobile phone proved futile, seeing as he had switched it off.

A day later, the miserable mother was still hoping his son would soften his stand, but all in vain.

It was after four days that the mother, aunties and the would-be wife packed and left the house a disappointed lot. For over a week now, the bachelor is yet to show up at his house. Neighbours have tried to trace him in vain.

It is said the bachelor has been avoiding going to his rural home for a while now, seeing as every time he did, villagers, aunties and grannies always nagged him to get married.
