Ruto offered me Sh2 billion to resign, Gachagua claims

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now claims that President William Ruto offered him Sh2 billion to step down. 

Speaking during an interview on vernacular radio stations on Tuesday, February 4, Gachagua claimed that the President suggested his resignation would pave the way for him to contest a political seat in the future.

“The President asked me to step down, promising Sh2 billion for a comfortable retirement with proper security and a good salary. He also suggested that I could run for office later. However, I questioned his intentions since he was asking me to resign,” he stated.

Additionally, he alleged that Members of Parliament were offered Sh500,000 each, while some senators received Sh10 million to support his impeachment.

Addressing concerns about his eligibility for future state positions following his ouster, Gachagua dismissed the notion that he was desperate for political office.

“People assume that I love myself too much, but it is not a must for me to contest any political seat in this country,” he said.

When asked about his successor, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Gachagua declined to comment, noting the distinction between an elected leader and an appointee.

“I don’t want to talk about Kindiki. I am an elected leader. I cannot talk about an appointee. I have no problem with him. I am doing my own things,” he said.

The former DP is set to unveil his highly anticipated political roadmap on Sunday, February 9, following consultations with elected leaders, professionals, religious figures, and other stakeholders.
