We invite you to record a statement, DCI to CS Justin Muturi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has asked Public Service CS Justin Muturi to record a statement over his son's abduction last year.

Responding to concerns raised by Muturi earlier today, DCI Director John Marete confirmed that the probe into the alleged abduction of his [Muturi's] son is active.

"We wish to reassure the public that most abduction cases reported to the police have been successfully investigated and are now pending in court. Investigations into current cases will be no exception," said Marete.

"The alleged abduction case is being actively handled by DCI Kilimani."

He added that while Muturi's son had volunteered to record a statement, they are urging the Cabinet Secretary to do the same at their Kilimani offices.

DCI also noted that several case files are under investigation and will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions upon conclusion.

The statement follows criticism from Muturi, who accused the government of failing to fulfill its promise of protecting Kenyan citizens. He cited his son's abduction as an example of the current administration's shortcomings.

"My son was abducted and disappeared. We were left in turmoil, not knowing whether he was alive or dead," Muturi said. "Now, more than six months later, after his release by unknown forces, he has not been charged with any offense, and no one has explained why he was abducted or held incommunicado."

The DCI has since vowed to resolve all abduction cases and ensure justice for victims and their families, coming on the back of a worrying trend of abductions in the country, including as recent as today, that of Tanzania activist Maria Sarungi.
