At least four people are feared dead in Nairobi’s Majengo area following a fatal shooting on Tuesday.
Several others were injured after police clashed with residents in running battles on Wednesday morning.
Witnesses said the violence erupted when police officers allegedly attempted to solicit bribes, prompting resistance from residents.
The confrontation quickly escalated into chaos.

One person is receiving treatment at Mater Hospital, while others have been taken to Kenyatta National Hospital.
Police spokesperson Michael Muchiri said Wednesday that one officer was injured during an operation in the area the previous evening.
"Last evening, two undercover officers pursuing a suspect believed to be carrying a bag of cannabis (bhang) were overpowered by a mob in aid the suspect," Muchiri said in a statement.
One person was shot during the altercation and hospitalised with a gunshot wound. He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
Three houses belonging to officers from Kamukunji Police Station were set on fire during the ensuing chaos.
Police also reported that a second body, bearing a knife wound, was discovered in a dark alley in Shauri Moyo.
Security officers have been deployed to restore calm amid tension.
