Kindiki calls on Kenyans to register for Taifa Care

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans to register for the Taifa Care program under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiative, a key priority of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Speaking during a visit to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) alongside Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa, the DP expressed concern over low registration numbers.

"This time, we will succeed because we have learned from the challenges of previous attempts to implement the healthcare system. We will monitor progress closely and address any loopholes," he said.

Kindiki expressed optimism that Taifa Care would benefit all Kenyans and announced plans to visit hospitals nationwide to oversee its implementation.

He noted that the program aims to address critical health challenges facing Kenya's healthcare infrastructure.

His remarks follow President William Ruto's recent directive to the Ministries of Health and Education to enroll all students in the Taifa Care program under UHC.

Speaking in Kabuchai, Bungoma, last Friday, Ruto said the program would include children in primary schools, secondary schools, and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers.

"We want all our children to be part of the program. I urge parents to ensure they register their children for Taifa Care. Previously, the program only covered secondary school students under Edu Afya," he said.
