West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin summoned for contempt of court

West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin

Kapenguria, Kenya: Governor Simon Kachapin and his deputy Titus Lotee have been served with contempt of court orders issued by the High Court sitting in Kitale for failing to comply with orders to reinstate four officers who were sacked in July.

County Executives Luka Chepelion (roads), Catherine Mukenyang (health), Josiah Cheruyot (fisheries) and County Secretary Joel Arumonyang, who were sacked by the governor, filed a petition at the High Court seeking orders to revert the decision.

Justice J Karanja granted the orders on July 9 but the governor was yet not comply with it despite acknowledging to having received the order.

The contempt order seen by The Standard indicates Mr Kachapin and Mr Lotee are expected in court on October 13 to explain why they should not be committed to a civil jail for up to six months or fined for deliberately disobeying the court order.
