From the looks, Margaret Waithera could be the youngest in prison for manslaughter; she has been here since 2011 serving four year jail term for manslaughter and set to leave in less than three months.
Her mistake was that of taking the life of close friend who alegedly snatched her boyfriend whom she had dated for more than a year "She was my good friend and sometimes we visited him together like friends", shares Waithera.
Living in Githura 45 having just completed high school and expecting to enroll for accounting course at local university, life was sweet with all freedom away from rural home in Githunguri.
She recalls, "One day when we visited my boyfriend they exchanged contacts, it's here that my boyfriend started changing".
Waithera said the man who used to call him five times a day changed and her visits every Sunday reduced as she finally found out that her friend had started an intimate relationship with the boyfriend.
To find out the truth "I tricked him on the material day around 10am that I was travelling upcountry, when I called him he said he was in the house but washing clothes, at around 11 when I decided to find out if he was around. I busted my close friend (deceased) washing clothes."
Adding "We quarreled and I decided to walk away. On the same day around 6pm, we met again and when she insulted me a fight started near a vegetable stall where I picked a knife and in the process of scuffling I overpowered her and used the knife to stab her on the ribs".
Waithera having realized her mistake raised an alarm which attracted passersby to help her rush the deceased to the hospital but she was pronounced dead around 10pm.
"It is a regrettable act but I have since apologized to their family and I still wish to apologize to anyone I caused any pain because life behind bars ins not easy, though I wanted to pursue accounting course, I have learnt catering, computer among other useful courses but my heart still yearns to go back to class if I get helping hand once I leave".
Virginia Muthoni, Waithera's elder sister said, despite the fact her sister committed the act without intent they are ready to receive her back home, "we miss her a lot and we look forward to her arrival".
