All set for Narok secondary schools games

Schools from three sub-counties will tomorrow battle for top honours in the Narok County Secondary Schools Sports Association Term One Games at Narok High and Maasai Girls Secondary Schools.

Teams from Narok North, Narok South and Trans Mara sub-counties will seek to select their best in rugby, basketball, hockey, decathlon and heptathlon ahead of the Mau Region Secondary Schools Games in Nakuru next week.

In hockey, two schools proceed straight to finals due to lack of competition from other schools, which failed to register their teams.

National hockey champions Narok Boys from Narok North will play Olulunga Boys from Narok South in the finals tomorrow.

It will be the same case in girls’ hockey, when Maasai Girls from Narok North take on Narusura from Narok South in another straight final.

In boys’ basketball, Narok High, Ololunga Boys and Kilgoris Boys will play in a round robin format, while St Mary’s of Narok North; Kilgoris Girls from Trans Mara and Enkare Naironka Naruma (Narok South) will employ the same formula to pick girls’ teams.

It will be a close contest in cross-country, decathlon and heptathlon when Narok South and Trans Mara parade their best legs ready for challenge.

“That is where cream of athletic talent is concentrated and it would be theirs for the taking,” said Narok Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary General Patrick Kiprono.

Kiprono revealed that they would not compete in swimming due to lack of participants.

“We are not going to participate in swimming because none of the schools had swimmers,” Kiprono said in an interview.

Narok High School, Kilgoris Boys and Ololunga Boys will battle in a three-team clash in rugby 15s category.
