Teen’s dream to join Alliance comes to life after well-wishers pledge fees

Kenya: It was all smiles for a 19-year-old boy from Butere after his dream of joining Alliance Boys in Nairobi became a reality.

Well-wishers came out to express their willingness to help Moses Lukoko pursue his dreams after The Standard highlighted how he had decided to make bricks to raise school fees.

Lukoko was able to score 391 marks out of a possible 500 in last year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams despite not being able to be in school consistently owing to lack of school fees.

Well-wishers indicated they would pay Lukoko's secondary school fees among other needs.

Those stepping in to help include East Africa Reinsurance. Alliance Boys High School Principal David Kariuki said the firm had assured him it would pay Lukoko's school fees for four years.

Mr Kariuki sympathised with Lukoko's plight and assured him that his position at the school was still available.

ACCOMPLISHED

Kariuki noted that there were many students who came to the school from such humble backgrounds, succeeded and accomplished their dreams with the help of well-wishers.

"We are happy and ready to receive him at Alliance Boys on Tuesday next week. He should not worry about school fees or sleeping on an empty stomach because well-wishers have contacted us. Lukoko's dream to be an engineer will be actualised because this school will offer him a life-changing opportunity," he said.

Another well-wisher who did not want to be named promised to contribute to Lukoko's fees.

"I want to see Lukoko join the school of his dream and pursue his career of choice," he said.

Lukoko was very happy and upbeat about the turn of events after he learnt that well-wishers were willing to help him.

"I am happy and thank the Almighty God that people are willing to help me pursue my dream to be an engineer. I will not let them down. I promise to work hard in class and be a testimony to others from poor backgrounds that they too can make it even if they come from needy homes," a beaming Lukoko said.

The principal gave the school's account number for anyone wanting to help. The total school fees for Form One is Sh93,000.
