Smitta Smitten denies ‘sexual harassment’ allegations

Local News

Tony Mochama

By Sheila Kimani (@sheilakimm)

Award winning writer Tony Mochama recently became the talk of town and more so a trending topic on social media platforms when Wambui Mwangi, a fellow writer came out claiming that he had “sexually assaulted” her friend at a party.

Word is that the party was hosted at Wambui’s place and she admits that she was present when the incident took place.

With aggression, Wambui took to social media tagging all top organization and renowned people who may have come into contact with Tony Mochama all in a bid to get their attention.

Claims were that Tony had harassed Shalija Patel, another writer and poet, so all Wambui was trying to do was seek justice.

However, the manner in which this message was passed begged the question, whether or not; Wambui was out to shame Tony, his career and brand, or perhaps to get justice for Shalija.

And if at all she was out to seek justice, shouldn’t she have reported the matters to relevant authorities first?

“We cannot be the complainants, police, prosecutors and judges of our cases. Where is the due process?” Robert Alai asked when the issue got too heated up.

In response to the claims, Tony sent out this message.

“Just getting breaking news that I am supposed to have sexually assaulted a lady on Sato night at a party yet I was at Storymoja. Very annoying. Especially as said lady is hiding behind Twitter and defaming me to even my employees. Apparently, I have enemies.

Anyway, to all my friends, this is malicious fiction and I will not only 'out' it in the paper but take legal action as soon as I confirm who the person behind this rubbish is.”

Today, Tony further affirmed that people shouldn’t always believe what they hear without proof saying.

“And just to keep things in perspective, even as some folks of deep will try to 'kill' me through social twitter with falsehood, the son of my friend Stanley passed away. Remember him in your prayers, for in the wider perspective of life, there are real tragedies still happening, all the time.”
