Medical officer charged with defiling girl

A medical officer who allegedly defiled a 17-year-old pupil was yesterday charged with the offence in a Murang'a court.

Douglas Mbutti, who is attached to Muriranja District Hospital in Kahuro, denied the two counts leveled against him before Principal Magistrate Antony Mwicigi.

He was released on a Sh300,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount until October 23 when the matter will be heard.

He was charged that on April 12 and May 14 this year at his private clinic at Kahuro market, he defiled the primary school pupil when she went there in need of treatment.

The second count stated that the medical officer was charged with indecent assault on the minor. He was charged with the offence after the Director of Public Posecutions gave the police the green light to charge him with the two offences.

Mr Mbutti, who is anesthetist, runs Mugoiri Medical Centre.

Two weeks ago, the girl's family complained that the police were taking time to charge the suspect with the offence but it emerged that they were awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko.

The family reported the incident after they realised that their daughter was two months pregnant.
