The 38 donkeys branded ‘Tumechoka’ that were abandoned in the city have found a new home.
Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) director, Jean Gilchrist, told The Nairobian that were left on Muindi Mbingu Street on December 11, were now under their care and they will ensure their safety.
“We have 36 donkeys with us. They were frail and had some injuries resulting from the manner in which they were transported in a lorry to the city, but they are now safe and receiving good care, “Gilchrist said.
The director said the animals are currently on a special diet that includes hay.
It is alleged the donkeys had been ferried by rights activists who had sprayed the message ‘Tumechoka’ on their sides to send a message that Kenyans were tired of the rising cost of living and runaway insecurity.
Gilchrist added that they will keep the donkeys until their rightful owners claim them.
“Anyone claiming the animals’ ownership must report to the City County Inspectorate Department before the donkeys are released to them,” she advised.
