Journalist Robin Njogu has been laid to rest at his Sibanga farm, Trans-Nzoia County. Njogu succumbed to Covid-19 at the Aga Khan Hospital last week.

Victor Bwire, the Head of Media Development and Strategy at the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), and Citizen TV’s Linus Kakai and Joe Ageyo were among hundreds of mourners who turned up to pay their last respects to the veteran journalist.

"We have lost a colleague, a professional, and a pillar. Njogu portrayed professionalism, respect, and networks which are important in the media industry," said Bwire in an emotional tribute.

Bwire challenged those in journalism to emulate the Royal Media Services Radio Managing Editor, who, he said, sacrificed a lot to ensure the growth of the industry.

"He was a talented and gifted personality who will be missed in the profession. I urge colleagues to emulate his high standards abd level of professionalism to enable the industry to move forward," added Bwire.

Kaikai, on his part, said the late Njogu was a unique journalist who exemplified teamwork and action-oriented practices.

George Njogu, the father of the journalist, said his son’s passing left a big gap. "He was a gift from God and his death is a big blow to my family. I accept that God has taken him away but he has left a big gap," mourned the father.

A message echoed by his widow, Carol Njogu, who added that death snatched a good and loving partner. 

MPs, Joshua Kositany, Chris Wamalwa, and Joshua Kuttuny were barred from addressing mourners.
