Learning has been paralysed in three schools in Lurambi and Mumias East constituencies after a foot bridge connecting the constituencies was destroyed on Monday night.

The 40-metre-long makeshift bridge across River Lusumu connects Makunga location in Mumias East constituency and Eshibeye location in Lurambi constituency.

The bridge was erected in 2014 by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali. The affected schools are Makunga secondary and Isango primary schools in Mumias East. In Lurambi they are Sokone and Shibeye primary schools.

Condemning the incident, Mr Washiali said: “I have talked to Lurambi MP Titus Khamala and we have agreed to put up a metallic bridge that cannot be easily destroyed."

The four schools have a population of over 3,500 students. Mumias OCPD Peter Kattam said a team of police officers was investigating the matter and will soon bring the culprits to book.
