Learning at local secondary school in Bungoma was paralysed after students broke the school fence to join the on-going Bukusu circumcision ceremony.
Over 90 students of Bukembe Secondary School overpowered security guards, as a singing group escorting an initiate approached the institution.
The students who were having their evening preps beat up a guards who tried to restrain them from leaving the school compound to join the traditional singers who were matching along the Bukembe-Nzoia road.
When their efforts to flee from the institution through the gate failed, they flattened the school fence and matched out to join the singing party where they were entertained up to wee hours of the morning.
Sipped beer
Villagers who mingled freely with the students at night told The Standard, majority were still in their school uniforms.
The locals recalled the students only left the home where the event was being held after the initiate had been circumcised.
“We sang, danced and sipped Busaa with them. I was shocked to discover some of them weren’t even Bukusus but they related so well with us,” a villager told The Standard.
Six students have been suspended following the incident.
