Kemboi to lead star athletes at GOtv race

 Olympic 3,000m steeple chase champion Ezekiel Kemboi will lead a galaxy of star athletes during the GOtv 10km race on in Eldoret on Sunday.

Kemboi, who is also the world 3,000m steeplechase champion, will launch his season in preparation for World Championships scheduled for August in Moscow, Russia.

“I take the race seriously because it marks a very significant occasion in the athletics calendar,” Kemboi said.

 The Sh2 million sponsorship road race contest stands out as the first one in the athletics-rich Eldoret.

The race follows a recent launch of the digital broadcasters’ services in Uasin Gishu County and its environs and is meant to act as marketing strategy for market penetration.

Two times Boston Marathon winner Moses Tanui, the event organiser said they had finalised preparations for the Sunday run and are just waiting for the D-day.

“We have the course ready and all the officials at hand. Registration is ongoing will be closing on Sunday by 7am,” he explained.

He advised interested participants wishing to register early to visit Panna Music Store-GOTv regional distributors and at Grand Prix Hotel in Eldoret.

MultiChoice Corporate Communications Manager Philip Wahome said they had set aside Sh300,000 for the winners.

“The race is important as it comes at the start of the season and will be concentrated along Uganda Road to the county offices,” Wahome said.

The GOtv bouquet comprises of SuperSport Select and Super Sport Blitz that promise to give the region’s sports fanatics enhanced picture and refined sound quality at an affordable price.

The event, which is expected to attract more than 200 participants, will be officially flagged off by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago.
