Gatundu South MP and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama were arrested on Monday 11 September over hate speech. They spent the night at the Pangani police station.
According to the charge sheet, Moses Kuria used abused words at the Wangine Market that were intended to cause physical injury to a person. He was also accused of uttering abusive words to NASA Leader Raila Odinga and his wife Ida
However, Mr Kuria has denied the claims and pleaded with the magistrate to release him on a free bond arguing that he had spent a large amount of money during the campaigns.
The Gatundu South MP also complained that the police failed to treat him with dignity after refusing to release him on bond when he was arrested on Monday.
The magistrate agreed to release him on a Sh 300,000 cash bail and ordered Mr Kuria to sign a bond of Sh1 million as a surety that he will conduct himself in good behaviour before the trial begins.
