Manchester United are set to begin their Champions League campaign tonight as they take on Swiss outfit FC Basel at Old Trafford.
Having signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, Victor Lindelof from Benfica, Romelu Lukaku from Everton and renewing Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract by another year, The Red Devils look set to compete in Europe again after entering the competition as Europa League winners.
Jose Mourinho will begin his Champions League campaign without the services of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones who are suspended for the clash.
He has however dismissed any worries of missing the two, saying new signing Victor Lindelof is more than capable of getting the job done.
On Lindelof, Mourinho said:
“Lindelof is an intelligent kid, very bright, very calm, he knows that step by step he is going to be there. There is reason for the other boys, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones, to be worried because Victor is a very good player."
Lindelof has not made an appearance in the Premier League this season and only featured for Man Utd in the UEFA Super Cup final against Real Madrid.
Mourinho had admitted that Lindelof needed more time to settle in England, being the reason why he never started any of the Premier League matches.
Manchester United have been grouped with FC Basel, Lindelof’s former club SL Benfica and CSKA Moscow.
