JUNET: Raila will not debate mediocre candidates

The presidential campaigns for the August general elections are set to kick of next Sunday when contenders will be submitting their papers to the electoral body.

As political parties and individual candidates harness campaign machinery for the battle, the presidential debate is emerging as critical point they intend to use to make it or break it.

Apparently parties are drawing the lines and setting the bars for what they expect of the hot seat and how they would want it the debates conducted.

The Orange Democratic Movement party director of election and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed yesternight, on Sunday gave demands for debates revealing that they expect the party leader who is the opposition coalition flag-bearer for presidency to only debate president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Junet in an interview said he does not expect NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga being subjected to debate the other seventeen contenders describing them as mediocre.

"It is not about the right to be heard, this is a serious matter on how to run this country and it is not comedy," said Junet.

He said he would not allow his party’s candidate to debate the other contestants for the presidency since according to him they were not serious I their bid to lead this country.

The Suna East Member of Parliament was speaking in an interview on KTN News on Sunday night.

The debates are scheduled on July 10 and July 24, 2017 ahead of the August poll.

Musungu Amram Inyambuku - Maendeleo Democratic Party

Khwa Jirongo Shakhalaga -United Democratic Party
