Kenya records highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in day

Kenya has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country after 66 more people tested positive bringing the total to 1029 cases.

Speaking at Afya House on Wednesday May 20, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that 64 of the people who tested positive were Kenyans while the other two from foreign nationals.

The CS also added that Mombasa town continues to be a challenge as 30 out of the 66 cases were from the county.

Kagwe announced that the National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus has extended the cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh and Old Town Mombasa, to help curb the spread of the virus.  

“In order to contain further spread of the virus, there shall be an extension of the cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh and Old Town Mombasa until 6th June 2020. In addition to that, the malls, eateries, restaurants are supposed to remain closed and hawking prohibited until Saturday, June 6, 2020,” announced Kagwe. 

CS Kagwe also urged Kenyans not to stigmatize people with COVID-19, adding that anyone could get it.
