PHOTOS: Magoha traces girl in slums, takes her to Precious Blood School

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha is a man on a mission to ensure students who did their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCSE) in 2019 secure an admission to high school.

On Thursday morning 23 January, CS Magoha traced Hinnah Anjala at their home in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums to ensure that the girl gets an admission at Precious Blood High School in Githuguri.

According to the Ministry of Education, the education CS is set to travel with Hinnah to ensure that she gets to school.

On January 20, CS Magoha began a door to door campaign in a bid to trace student who are yet to join Form 1. This will ensure a 100 per cent transition to high school, a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

On the day of the launch, the education CS managed to trace Josephine Ekongo at their home in Kibera slums and took her to Karec C secondary school.

CS magoha also traced another student in Kayole and escorted her to Machakos Girls’ School to join Form one.

The Education CS started the campaign after reports that over 40% of the candidates had not yet reported to school. According to Magoha all candidates must join high school.

While speaking in Nyeri County the education CS warned parents who had not yet taken their kids to school, adding that they will take matters into their own hands should the parents fail to do so.

“We shall go after the parents and they will tell us why the children are not in school. If we find the children, we will take them to school ourselves and we will do it forcibly.”

“We will go for the parents of children who may have been married off early and forcibly take the children to school to ensure that all Class Eight candidates transit to secondary school,” said CS Magoha.

To ensure that all needy students secure an admission to high school, President Uhuru gave a directive to get the students full scholarship through the Sh3 billion Elimu Fund that was launched in 2019.

“The President directed that we give at least 30% of these scholarships to children in urban slums and it will also happen in 2020 and other years to come to ensure no child is out of school,” said Magoha.
