Ruto quotes non-existent Bible verse

Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday quoted a non-existent Bible verse leaving congregants somewhat confused.

The DP was addressing faithful at the Salvation Army Citadel in Kakamega County when he quoted Mathew 6:35.

“Tumeambiwa na waganga na wachawi ati mtu fulani atakua kwa debe na mtu fulani hatakuwa kwa debe ujue mahali Kenya imefika. 

(We have been told by witches and sorcerers that some people will be on the ballot and others will not be on the ballot. Note where we have reached as a country),” he began.

“Lakini hata na wao tunaomba muwaombee wajue ya kwamba Mathayo sita thelathini na tano, watafute kwanza ufalme wa Mungu. 

(We are requesting that you pray for them so that they know Mathew Chapter 6 Verse 35 says they must first seek the Kingdom of God…,” he stated.

Ruto was responding to COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli that he would not be in the ballot in the 2022 General Election.

Mathew chapter six has only 34 verses and the verse the DP was referring to is actually verse 33.

“31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 

32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

On Saturday, Atwoli stated that Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho will be in the next government while DP Ruto will not.

“I assure you that after the next elections, Governor Ali Hassan Joho will be part of the next government…The name of William Samoei Ruto will not be there (on the ballot). You can take it to the bank,” said Atwoli.
