Kenyan makes urgent plea to Uhuru during China visit

President Uhuru Kenyatta was among African leaders who met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday during the 2018 summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

During the summit, China unveiled a new $60 billion kitty for Africa’s development as part of a raft of new measures to strengthen Sino-Africa ties.

The money is set to be channeled towards various projects including construction of roads, bridges and seaports, energy, and human capacity development.

One Kenyan, however, told the Head of State that Kenya has more pressing issues that need to be addressed.

“Instead of a road from Nrb-Msa, you should get more equipment for cancer in our hospitals and also increase the number of ICU beds in KNH,” stated Shiku Richards.

This may be due to the fact that KNH recently stated it did not have enough ICU beds thus it is incapable of providing sufficient care for patients in critical condition.

Shiku further added that: “Roads will not be of much help now that we are going to be moving around in horses and donkeys. Those animals can stand any terrain.”

The Chinese President said China is proud of its partnership with Africa; adding that he is ready to inject more impetus into efforts to alleviate poverty and create employment.

Using a Chinese proverb, “the ocean is vast because it rejects no river”, President Jinping said China will spearhead the upholding of open economies that promote the prosperity of all people.

He added that global governance needs to be reformed to give a voice to the majority of the world which is the developing world including all African countries.

“China and Africa can forge a stronger comprehensive and strategic partnership. China promises to engage with Africa on a principle of sincerity and real results,” he remarked.
