Garissa Governor Ali Korane was arrested on Tuesday morning in Nairobi over the attempted murder of former county finance executive Idris Mukhtar last week.

Korane was then taken to Nairobi area police station and reports indicate that two other suspects believed to be hired as assassins were also arrested.

Mukhtar was shot in Kileleshwa on August 19, 2018, while shopping and suffered serious head injuries.

A team of detectives who visited the scene was informed the victim had left prayers at a nearby mosque and was leaving for his house when he was attacked.

The DPP had ordered the Director of Criminal Investigations to investigate the circumstances that led to the shooting.

According to police reports, a gunman had accosted the victim to his car and shot him at close range.

The motive of the shooting is yet to be established but a family spokesperson claimed Mukhtar had been receiving death threats.

Mukhtar had been sacked by the former Garissa administration and moved to court where he was awarded Sh50 million for wrongful sacking
