Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has responded after he was ordered by the court on Wednesday 20 November to pay Sh 6.5million to Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua over International Criminal Court (ICC) defamation remarks.
The High Court judge Joseph Sergon ordered Mr Kuria to pay the cost of the case saying that the lawmaker's comments were malicious and meant to injure Martha Karua’s good reputation.
“I award the plaintiff Sh5 million as general damages (and) Sh1.5 million as exemplary damages, “ruled Justice Sergon.
Moses Kuria took to his Facebook page and said that he will be holding a series of Harambees across the country to raise the money. He also went ahead and asked his supporters to help him.
“Today (20 November) I was instructed by the court to pay child support amounting to Ksh 6.5 Million. I will be holding a series of Harambees across the country so that you, my supporters can help me. The first Harambee will be held at Kerugoya stadium in the next few weeks. The date will be announced here soon,” Moses Kuria posted.
The Court punished the Gatundu South MP for linking Karua to Deputy President William Ruto's prosecution at the International Criminal Court.
Ms Karua who had asked the court for Sh 20 million, denied any allegations of being involved in bribing people to testify against DP Ruto.
“Unless the defendant is compelled by this honorable court to cease from maligning my name and further injuring my reputation, I stand to suffer irreparable harm from his reckless and unwarranted attack on my integrity on grounds which he cannot substantiate,” said Karua.
However, Moses Kuria argued that the Narc Kenyan leader had not filed enough material to prove that she had been defamed
“I am merely stating factual matters which the plaintiff (Karua) cannot dispute,” Kuria argued.
