Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has named nine members of his cabinet set to drive his transformation agenda.
The nine, according to Governor Nyong’o, were picked by an outsourced firm through a competitive process.
His campaign manager, Nelly Achar (Physical Planning), and former Kisumu Central parliamentary aspirant Richard Ogendo (Economic Planning) are among those who made it to the list that is set to be tabled in the county assembly for approval.
Education docket
Also on the list is a former chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Headteachers Association, John Obiero Awiti, who will head the Education docket. Career educationist Pamela Akello had earlier been tipped for the post but was not picked.
Mr Awiti unsuccessfully vied for the Kisumu Town West parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket but was defeated by John Olago Aluoch of Ford Kenya.
The head of Nyong’o’s communication team, Archie Alai, has been nominated to head the Tourism docket.
Also on the list is a former head of the county's Reproductive Health and Family Planning Services, Rosemary Obara as the Health executive nominee. Ms Obara was at the helm of health services management in Kisumu and boasts more than 15 years of experience.
Poor services
Her appointment comes at a time when Nyong'o has expressed concern about poor emergency services in the county's health institutions in the wake of fears of possible violence during the repeat presidential polls.
Other nominees are Alice Moraa (Energy), Thomas Owiti (Public Works), and Robert Ouko (Finance).
