Isaac Ruto reveals why he quit NASA and refused to wear the Jubilee cap

Former Bomet Governor and also former National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal Isaac Ruto has revealed why he quit the Raila Odinga-led coalition, shifting allegiance to Jubilee Party’s Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader lost the Bomet Governor’s seat to Jubilee’s Joyce Laboso.

Days after, he announced that he has shifted allegiance to Uhuru Kenyatta, welcoming the President in Kericho on 8th of September 2017 at the Kapkatet Grounds.

Addressing the crowd at the time he said, “Today I have returned where I belong and my team have decided to give support to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.”

This move was met by strong criticism from NASA supporters, with most arguing that he never brought any substantial votes in to help NASA in the region.

He then decided to relax, focus on his private life and let Joyce Laboso lead the people of Bomet.

Speaking to The Nairobian, the famous former governor, known for his firm stance on issues before and during the campaign period revealed why he decided to quit NASA even when he was a Co-principal, also refusing to wear the Jubilee cap after welcoming President Uhuru and DP Ruto in Kericho.

When asked if blackmail was the reason why he defected, he responded saying, “I have not defected; I am still the party leader of Chama Cha Mashinani.”

He went to say that he was persuaded to support the re-election of President Uhuru because the people of Bomet needed to stay together and that 60 per cent of the people who voted for him also voted for the President. He also denied being threatened and said that he never wore the Jubilee cap because he had no intention of disagreeing with the majority.

Ruto also said that once the r-election of Uhuru is done with, everyone will be free to express themselves and contribute.

He then promised to keep off Bomet politics and let Joyce Laboso do her job, saying once in a while, a change of leadership is needed.

Approaching his final remarks assured Kenyans that he has not sold his soul and has not sacrificed everything he has worked for all those years.
