A JKUAT university student who was killed over a broken glass worth Sh50 laid to rest

A JKUAT student and a resident of Burma estate who was allegedly killed at a local pub in Huruma was laid to rest on Saturday in Gatitu village, Kiamwangi ward, Gatundu South Constituency.

The late Joseph Kang’ethe was allegedly killed on Thursday evening at a local bar in Huruma after a misunderstanding between the bar owner and the bar's security over a broken glass worth Sh50.

According to one of the witnesses, the late Kang’ethe accidentally dropped a glass as he was placing it on the counter and instead of the bar owner looking for an amicable solution to the issue he ordered his Masaai security guards to beat the student.

It is also alleged that the owner of the bar stepped on the deceased chest causing chest fractures.

“The late after having a drink with his cousins he rose to leave the pub, as he was living he volunteered to return the glass he was using and as he tried to place it on the counter it accidental fell and broke. Sam, the owner of the bar then ordered the security guards to beat the boys and in the process, Kang’ethe was killed,” he said.

According to the father of the deceased Paul Kang’ethe Wanyoike when he heard that his son has been killed he went to record a statement with the police but he was told that he cannot do that because that was a police case.

Some of the people around accused the owner of the Vineyard Pub in Huruma of using the police to harass people who drink at his bar whenever he has a misunderstanding with them.

Residents of Huruma and students from JKUAT held peacefully demonstrations on Thursday after the killing.The urged the police to see to it that the culprits are brought to book.

So far up to now, no arrest has been made despite the suspects being known.Kangethe was a fourth-year student at JKUAT university.
