It is next to impossible to find any formidable news without a colourful decoration by political bigwigs, whose images portend nothing but doom for our lovely motherland. In fact, we have been made to believe that news is incomplete without figures of certain political demigods.
These demigods have held their communities hostage since independence and still not relenting. They create circumstances each and every day with one major goal: to become more relevant in the society. Unfortunately, 90% of the ways they use to make themselves relevant disadvantage 90% of the community members.
We should feel sorry, very very sorry indeed; not for people dying of Al-Shabaab in Somalia, not for those dying of Boko Haram in Nigeria and not for those dying of hunger in Burundi…..but for our own motherland. We know Somalia will be free from Al-Shabaab one day, same case to Nigeria and of course hunger stricken Burundi is recovering smoothly. Kenya may not be under siege of all these, but there is one contagious problem: politicians.
Kenya has become a ‘man eat man society’ courtesy of politicians. I bet no one can trust words from a Kenyan politician, simply because they are never genuine. Despite the fact that politicians are the worst sources of information, our local media has been lured to give them priority in every aspect regardless of how useless it is.
All our systems have gone through massive acquisition by politics. We are now under self-made siege and as such, we are held hostage. But it’s not all bleak, we can move out of siege with sacrifice; sacrifices by our local media to devalue politics, sacrifices by our youths to refuse being used as vehicles of political influence, sacrifices to reject tribal based politics and sacrifices to protect the sovereignty of our constitution.
